Dave Hebner began his professional wrestling refereeing in Richmond, Virginia in the 1970s. He then joined the World Wrestling Federation in the year 1986. Bennett is known to have refereed matches like Randy Savage versus Ricky Steamboat and Randy Savage versus Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania III and WrestleMania V respectively.

Hebner retired from wrestling refereeing after he had knee replacement surgery. He then became a road agent and worked as one until his contract was ended in July 2005.
