Obituary: Oregon Tight End Spencer Webb Cliff-Diving Accident Linked To His Death

Spencer Webb, an Oregon Ducks football player died in a cliff-diving mishap in Lane County on Wednesday, according to The Sacramento Bee.

He hit his head during a cliff-diving mishap just west of Triangle Lake in Lane County, less than a mile from the university.

On Thursday evening, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office stated on its Facebook page that they responding to a complaint of an injured individual.

Deputies learned that a 22-year-old male recreationist fell and smacked his skull.

“He was roughly 100 yards down a steep slope when bystanders and emergency paramedics were unable to rescue him.” “There is no indication of foul play, and his death looks to be accidental,” the post said.

Webb’s name was not mentioned in the article, but people who coached him in high school and his family verified his death. Webb grew up in Sacramento and attended Christian Brothers High School. For the Ducks, he was a tight-end player and a sophomore.

Oregon coaches reached out to Ducks players Thursday night, inviting them to an early morning support gathering on campus. Webb was expected to start for the Ducks this season.

Webb’s big-play skills and personality were praised by Oregon fans. Fans would raise signs reading “Webb for President.” After one of Oregon’s home games, he was raised and thrown about like a beach ball at a concert by Ducks fans.
